Athena Accelerator: Cost Optimization & Quality Assurance
This release delivers further cost reductions in question generation, extends quality control coverage to browser-based scaffold prompts, and advances our work on improving system responses for struggling students.
- Continued Cost Reduction – Question generation cost now at $0.30 for most questions and $0.40 for complex cases, achieved through token caching for batch generation and strategic use of lighter models. Output tokens now represent the primary cost driver, with further optimization requiring architectural changes planned for future releases.
- Browser QC Parity – Scaffold prompts generated through the browser-based workflow now undergo the same quality control checks as offline generation. This ensures every question component a student encounters has been validated.
- Intervention System Refinement (In Progress) – Simulated student testing revealed inconsistencies in intervention timing for struggling students, ranging from overly eager to delayed responses. Current system achieves a median score of 60 (range 40-80) against our target of 85. Refinements are ongoing.
